Sreesha ShettyFashion Journalist at The Times of India and Unicorn Caretaker at Lune

Who is Sreesha?
A mystery. A dreamer. A fierce creator. An anxious and curious human being. A child of bohemia.

What does your wardrobe say about you?
Like me, my wardrobe choices can be very capricious — dictated by the ebb and flow of the tide. I’m going through a very grunge meets boho phase right now. I live in clothes that don’t flatter my body — long tunics, fluid pants, boyfriend jeans and oversize tee shirts juxtaposed with my own jewellery. On days I'm in the mood to play dress up, I throw thrift store finds together for a gypsy from the 60s vibe.

Your love affair with jewellery.
What started out as a hobby soon became an obsession. As I kid, I loved art. I loved making things that were as weird I was. I once gifted my brother a crown (for a school play) made from of my cousin’s rubber pee mat. I embellished the creation with beads from an old necklace. I have always been drawn towards the art of adornment.

Where do you find your inspiration?
From the latest runway show to the construction workers downstairs — it's everywhere, really! You just have to find it. I sketch or scribble my thoughts down. My curse is that I try too many things at one time. Sometimes it leads to confusion; other times, genius.

Your favourite city.
Right now, Mumbai. Paris and London are my all time favourite cities. 'Course nothing beats the comfort of the sun and sand back home (Goa).

Tarot Predictions – May 2014

Taking a detour from the sartorial route, Purple Peeptoes presents its first astrological feature in collaboration with Goddess Breath.

The dynamic force behind Goddess Breath, Pushtiie Shiv Shakti embodies the divine feminine. Her superpowers: A strong intuition and a sense of humour to go with it. You probably know her as the vivacious Mahi from the Yrf television production ‘Mahi Way’. A certified healer off-screen, she has perfected myriad techniques, from reiki to rebirthing. Her mystical affair with the cards began fifteen years ago. And now, as a part of a monthly feature, she will be unravelling what is in store for you.

Aries: You are a fire sign, but this month you will have to take on the characteristics of the water signs. Emotions! The cards are screaming ‘relationships’. The past may come revisiting. Indulge! Siblings can be good support. Strengthen your vibe with them. Take the first step towards fixing broken relationships. There is a possibility that if you don’t, it will come back later. It’s kind of a Karmic thing. Go into nostalgia mode. Your heart needs it. On the professional front, you may be presented with a new offer or one that has passed, both of which will be successful. It’s all the work you have done in the past that will be rewarded. You may meet someone new who you will think you have known forever. This one is a sure to be a past life connection! That’s a lot of past coming back. Remember to stay in the present though!

Taurus: You may find yourself becoming impatient and agitated this month. You seem to have waited long for things to shift. Yet you will have a little more waiting to do. Patience is the trump card for this month. As of now you may not be standing on a firm ground and your basic nature is not helping the predicament. Partners are best avoided. An overseas trip could get delayed. Good! You need this time to be safe and in a known environment. This is a good time for you to unwind in your own space. Plan further with a steady mind and lots of intellectual help. There is a possibility of an unexpected expansion which will be extremely positive for you. We all know you have unbounded energy, so use it in the right direction. Don’t get rooted to a spot. Adopting a softer approach to everything will make life simpler.

Gemini: Pay close attention to the overly materialistic twin this month. Hold it back from greed and addictions. It can be fascinating at first. But overindulgence kills the magic. While you are potentially in the land of lust and money, you are feeling drained and empty. Make positive changes – from choosing a healthy diet to identifying real relationships. And most importantly, exercise! Now is the time to window shop in fast forward mode. You will certainly remember the right thing when you actually need to buy it. If you are already feeling stuck, do everything in your power to break the chains. It’s easier then think. Freedom is what you can achieve this month!

Cancer: Money, money, money! Unexpected financial abundance is your coming your way, probably in the form of inheritance. The cards there could be an abundance of many things. You are advised to spend more time with grandparents or elders that may fit that description. Is there a possibility of an engagement or a wedding in the house? May be a birth? Now this encompasses everything, not just people. Bliss and fulfilment with regards to family and relationships is indicated. Word of caution – don’t ruin for yourself by walking away from all that life has to offer. Just remain in a state of complete acceptance and gratitude. The crab is going to be happy this month!

Leo: You are in a zone of personal power all of this month! Keep in mind ‘In gentleness lies true strength’ and ‘Forgive and forget’. The two simple thoughts will help you sail through the month without turbulence. You are well ahead of the rest and have a definite advantage at every level. Willpower and self-control combined with wisdom, faith and optimism will domesticate the most untameable of energies. The cards indicate the energy of a pet in your life. Pay more attention to them. If you don’t already have one, it is possible that a pet will make an entrance. This will make more space in your life for the love and generosity you have within to surface, purging the slight streak of stubbornness. Wink at the sun every day!

Virgo:‘Foundation laying and building’ pretty much sums up your month. Well-laid plans lie ahead of you. This applies not just to your professional life, but also personal. Those looking for a stable relationship or a marriage, you should know it is close! There is a trip on the cards – and you will not be travelling alone. There is a possibility of travelling for four days with a partner, for professional or personal reasons. I’ll let you decide. This is a great time for you to build a new house or invest in one. Would you like to return to that course you left off just before your final exams? Now is an excellent time. Here’s some random advice – take dance, yoga or martial arts lessons. Anything that gets your body moving! Don’t you love how stable you feel when you are standing on your own two feet?

Libra:‘Choices’ is the word for your month. You have to make some choices with regards to everything, from small things like ‘what colour tie should I wear today?’ to ‘I think we should take this relationship to the next level’. The good part is that you are constantly guided and taken care of by your angelic guardians. Things that have been an option in your life are looking to move into the serious zone. Think twice and carefully. Not everything is black and white. There is grey area you need to sort through to arrive at the right decision. On the health front, you are advised to look at the region from your torso to your shoulders. There is a lot of love, compassion and newness coming your way. Make the most of it!

Scorpio: You are going forward with amazing focus. Yet you are on unstable ground. Relax. It’s nothing that cannot be taken care of. Just look before you leap. There is no need to be apprehensive or defensive. Be careful. Your basic nature of passion usually makes you impulsive but now is the time to just take it slow. There is a chance you will lose focus or thinking one thing and doing another. Pull yourself together. Ideas could get frivolous. You are advised not to over think anything. Your mantra this month is: Go with the flow and stay in the moment. Allow your mind some rest.

Sagittarius: You could end up behaving like a Taurean this month – stubborn and unflinching, disallowing another person’s point of view. Where will this come from? You know your stuff and are really sure of it. You are in command where ever you go and usually command a position of authority. You are intelligent, yes. But overconfident too. Somehow there seem to be walls around your true self. You will feel like people want to peer in. But growth happens when you share. You have an abundance of good financial ideas and they could help so many. So assert your power. Step away from your shadow of your insecurity and shine. You are comfortable at home so spend some time there. Have a house party and play the perfect host. Food and drinks for everyone. Charm the world. You have the charisma.

Capricorn: New beginnings are in store for you. You have so much energy inside you. It’s time to let it all out. This month things will happen fast! Technology is your best friend and the bearer of happy news. There is immediacy in the air. Professionally, both new and old things will hit the accelerator. You may be invited to some very fruitful meetings.  You could find yourself noticing more similarities between you and your family members, which is unusual for you. Genetics suddenly find a whole new meaning! There is a feeling of newness around you all the time. Spirituality and sexuality will both present themselves to you on a platter. Or you could be drawn to them. Either way, make the most of both sides of your energy. Meditate. It will sort a lot out.

Aquarius: Everything is right and in perfect order. Victory is written all over everything you decide to do. You may have just come out of a period of slump. This is the moment that everything will start to look up again. So allow your inner child to come out and play for a bit. The time to be worried is behind you. Have faith and know that everything is alright. Go on a vacation for a week. Pay more attention to your health. This is me-time. Please pay heed to it. For you, winking at the sun will not be enough. Do a few suryanamaskars! Take up horse riding as a hobby. Keep yourself fit as there is a bit of running around in the near future. It could be a new job, a business opportunity, a relationship, a baby, a pet or simply a point of view. But it’s all happy and bright!

Pisces: For you 1+1=2 for you, not 11. Your instinct has taken an unwilling hiatus. Please reconnect with it. Yes, you are really good at what you do. But there are a lot of people who are better then you. You cannot always be the king. If you want to, remember that you will also have to express your emotions to your subjects. Something tells me you are suffering there. Get in touch with your feminine side. Play out that repressed sexuality and know you don’t need to feel guilty about it. You are a born leader, refine your abilities. Your mind is razor sharp and people come will come to you, especially this month, for almost every kind of advice. You could be in for a promotion, professionally and personally. Try to smile, laugh and enjoy it. Health wise, pay attention to your joints and the head area. I know you are passionate and can play the best game of seduction. Choose your victim kindly!

Harlow Red

It’s not lipstick if it isn’t red.

Having devoured an array of lipsticks and lip colours for many years now, I can tell you that if, like me, you suffer from the Voldemort Pucker Syndrome (lips so thin you need a microscope to be able to see them), no amount of skill will ensure that the pigment will stay within the boundary of your lips. No, I refuse to use a lip liner at half past eight in the morning. Or spend anything more than seven minutes being utterly vain.

Enter: The Bobbi Brown Art Sticks

Fashioned after a thick pencil, Bobbi Brown’s latest pencil glides effortlessly across the surface of your lips, rendering a creamy matte sheen. Unlike most other sticks of its calibre that tend to impart an almost sheer colour, it provides a saturated hue. This too can be customised – for a subtle sheen, stick to one coat. There’s something rather natural about its glow which makes it perfect for everyday use.

Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Harlow Red

Another reason I swear by the formula is for its shea butter content. It keeps the lips moisturized through the day, eliminating the need for a lip balm as well. Yes, it lasts for a decent amount of time. Five hours on my lips – a time span interrupted by two meals and 7.5 cups of green tea. As far as maintenance is concerned, it comes with its own pencil sharper. Perhaps, the reason I love it the most is for the ‘artistic’ precision with which it defines my lips.

Ladies and gentlemen, the cards have spoken! In the second edition of Purple Peeptoes + Goddess Breath, Pushtiie Shiv Shakti tells you what to expect in the month that lies ahead.
{Picture Courtesy: Meher Ahmed}

Aries: Fasten your seat belts, honey! You’re about to go on a roller coaster of good luck. Fortunate accidents will take you by surprise. Everything around you will start to change. You will be met with new opportunities in all spheres of your life. This is a great time to start new things. Go ahead with confidence. You already know the answers. Road blocks will start lifting with some help. Witnessing a miracle – Check! Change in Fate – Check! Word of warning: Don’t burn it up on silly desire.

Taurus: The cards strongly suggest romance! I know you like being settled, but darling, it’s time you open that door. A new love interest will come in or an old, rather painful one will walk out. Creativity is on a high and you will finally learn to float. Let go of that railing. Smile. There is so much love and newness coming your way. The scent of youth is intoxicating–almost everything you indulge in will emanate it. Pay close attention to your dreams. Important messages will be revealed to you this month.

Gemini: Your mind is up to it again! There is a chance that things won’t work out the way you want them to many a times this month. But there is a way to get through this. Just learn the lesson it’s teaching you. The cycle will break immediately. Success will follow. Make note of your intentions before you embark upon the project and the intentions of the people involved. Give yourself a moment to recap the chain of events and start to look for the repetitive patterns.

Cancer: Your birthday month is here! You are, very seriously, being advised to have fun. I know you like to get things done. You have the tendency to get really heavy sometimes. (How do I know? I am also a crab, darling!) But you need to get some rest this month. Find new ways to have fun and relax. Challenge yourself to just be. In this state of mind, there is a good chance you will come up with brilliant ideas that will solve issues and aid important projects in your life. Behold! It could be the news of marriage, birth or a baby shower!

Leo: Who screwed it up? Never mind! The important thing is that you’re fine and you’re going to be all of this month. This is a good time for you to see what you’re really made of. When things go awry you will, surprisingly, remain centred and calm. Someone may try to dominate you. Think you can handle that? Hell, yeah! You will be surprised as your soft side comes into play. It will take people around you by surprise too. The big, intimidating lion is going to turn into a kitty – and for his own benefit. Have patience and engage in compassionate exchanges of energy. Your belief in yourself and all that you stand for will take you through.

Virgo: Who did you bribe and when? The most positive of influences are surrounding you this month. It’s time to make a long term check list. This month you will get the chance to plan the rest of your life the way you want it to be. Don’t worry about how it will work and whether or not you will make right choices. You will! You will be blessed with utmost magick and faith. Let me tell you a secret. You don‘t know this yet, but you’re doing it all right! Challenging times are behind you. So wish upon a star and know that it will come true!

Libra: Normally I would tell you to bring balance in your life. But this month it’s time to do what you do best–be extreme. Shine! You’re about to make a breakthrough with work and may be even pull in an award. You have a keen understanding of things right now. I urge you to make the most of it. Teach, if you are comfortable, and spread the knowledge. Work in a group. It’s really the best thing to do right now. You need people who can execute your brilliant ideas and plans. Success awaits you! Just work in a team to experience it. This month, people might even call you an artist in some way.

Scorpio: Well done! You seem to have finally completed something. Now you can rest. I know you’re not used to this, but it’s going to turn out to be a rather settled and meditative month for you. Your spiritual side is waking up more than it ever has. Satisfaction, contentment and gratitude are oozing out of you. You will experience complete clarity and a touch of perfection! This will help you move to the next level in your work and your relationships. There is a kind of mysterious understanding of the Universe. The sensuality of existence is flirting with you!

Sagittarius: Pay attention to detail. You are wise and well read. Yet the piece you are working on at the moment needs your knowledge to go to the next level. Take a class, do a workshop, may be teach the subject to learn more from it. Your heart is in it completely. Come on, just accept it! Just for the fun of it you can, may be, assist someone. In the bigger picture, you are going to be appreciated and may be even rewarded for your skills. The question is: Which one are you perfecting this time? Wink, wink.

Capricorn: Get a job! I know you want to do your own thing. But darling, right now, it isn’t working. Is there a ‘lack’ of something in your life? More specifically, in the finance department. Please stop focussing on it. Instead start working on how you can change things around to create abundance. You have been affected by this situation emotionally and mentally. Soon it will start taking a toll on you physically too. Give yourself a break. Follow the plan to happiness. Don’t make self-serving changes and alterations–you’re not in a space conducive to creation right now. And make sure you take all the help coming your way. It’s a blessing right now!

Aquarius: Mum’s the word for you this month. You will find yourself behaving like her. I’m talking about the nurturing and supporting mother who is always getting it right for her babies! You have the magick touch right now. Heal and breathe life into everything you can, be it a being or a project. It is bound to be successful. There’s a bit of fairy dust in the air around you. Use it! Pamper yourself. Take good care of your body. Marriage, children and new creative endeavours will call for your attention – like in the case of your Cancerian friends. Work with them. Be a good mommy for now.

Pisces: Move on! The dull and difficult phase is over. Impending conflicts are about to get resolved. To believe in it, make a physical trip to someplace close to water. Brightness is finally making its way back into your life. Look! There is life at the end of the tunnel. Is there a change in work or work place? Are you getting a new house or renting one? If there is a need for a small medical intervention, or even a surgery, get it done. It is likely to help more than harm you. Your days of stress are over, darling. Breathe.

In a modern tale of imperfection, Sneha Arora marries sobriety to abstraction–presenting artistry far superior her years. While narrating the story of her SS14 display, she draws us into a world of fragmented beauty.

Sneha Arora
‘Allow yourself to leak sometimes’
Once, I let a crisp white ink-stained shirt remain just the way it is–resisting the urge to restore it to its former glory. Eventually, the pattern grew on me. Captivated by beauty of imperfection, I have recreated the marks left behind by ink bottles, teapots and tea bags. You will see that the colours indigo, brown and dusty beige dominate the palette.

‘Indigo is as Japanese as it is Indian’
Drawing inspiration from the Land of the Rising Sun, I have created shirts with kimono sleeves, detailed with leaking plackets, and culottes that take after hakama trousers.  The shibori technique underlines this collection. My love androgyny and structure is quite evident, but I have tried to have more fun with the silhouettes this time.

‘My designs will grow on you’
It takes a while for people to open up to my designs. But once they do, they always come back for more.

I’m seldom drawn to what is considered ‘proper’. So my sense of style is best described as eclectic. Nautical meets bohemian on some days. Formal meets grunge on others.

By The Wear
My blog is visual diary of my style. It has helped me evolve with time, while challenging me to create something new from the old. Honestly, it is the best thing that has happened to me after my husband.

I can find inspiration almost anywhere, but, at the moment, I’m taken by the way my mother-in-law adorns herself. There is something very regal about her personal.

Indrakshi Pattanaik, Fashion Stylist

Tell me a little about yourself.
‘I love to travel and I vanish sometimes.’

All the things you love.
Greys. Old photographs. Old furniture. Paris. Mumbai.

Your affair with fashion.
I grew up in Calcutta which, on most days, is quite a laidback city. However, during the festival of Durga Puja, I would watch the city transform. Everybody would step out in the most intriguing of attires. This especially holds true for the women, who would don as many as three different dresses on each of the five days. It was almost like fashion week!
In the spirit of Pujo, I took my family members as subjects of experimentation – finding (or creating) suitable sarees and dresses for each of them, while learning about colours, figures and forms in the process. My mother was always my favourite experiment – her style is the opposite of mine. I always had an opinion on what everybody would wear. Over a period of time, it became a ritual for them to consult me with regard to their wardrobe choices. It was only much later that I realised it was my calling.

Personal Style
Laidback, beachy and layered with a touch of tribal jewellery. I love ornaments.

|Sense of Style|
I love my staples. You can say I’m nude, grey and navy blue kind of girl. However, I make it a point to add an element of outlandish. My favourite outfit right now is a pair of pajama pants that reflect the psyche of a four-year-old. Yes, I’m an oddball like that – with a touch of femininity thrown in for good measure.

This label is my interpretation of festival fashion. The handmade pieces are created from woven thread and other locally sourced material. Think of it as a space that encourages non-linear thought within the discipline.

|Philosophy|
Design should be clear, honest and boldly unapologetic.

October 28, 2013 – The precise date on which I joined the Instagram bandwagon. Suffice, to say my hipster days are behind me. Since then, my iPhone has been witness to absolutely everything, from my elaborate breakfast bowl to Friday night shenanigans. Yes, I’ve been looking at the world in 4X4 squares, and have even tailored incidents to fit these boxes perfectly. It’s been a tumultuous eight months, and this relationship is showing no signs of fading. So without further ado, I’m going to introduce you to some of my favourite #ootd moments. The Accessory List

1- Deep Violet Slake – Rs.5080
2- Burgundy Slake Bracelet – Rs.5080
3 - Tili Pendant – Rs. 6450
4- Heart Ring – Rs. 5990

The Challenge: Wearing the stars from Swarovski’s affordable range, while highlight the versatility they display.

Concert Style (Street Style but at the festivals) also known as ‘Fashion on Acid’ at the Purple Peeptoes studio, is clearly the trend of the moment–defined by trippy colours, frayed denims, fringed accessories and most importantly, the fabric of Woodstock.
While bringing my inner flower child to the forefront, I have given the tie and dye a chic makeover by pairing it with a metallic-hued bustier. For a touch of trippy, I’ve turned to Swarovski’s crystal-studded slake bracelet – the chameleon of my accessory wardrobe that has willing posed as a wristlet, necklace, headband and belt. Alongside, a charmed dragonfly pendant and a dainty ring consisting of a cluster of hearts from the brand, sit pretty.
To complete my ensemble, I’ve thrown in a pair of powder yellow pumps. Didn’t I tell you the party was just about to get started?
